Adventure Scuba Company Now a Reef Field Station
“As divers, I believe we all have a responsibility to help preserve the marine environment for future generations. If we can make a positive impression through our training programs, dive trips, and seminars, I think we are headed in the right direction.”
We are excited to announce that Adventure Scuba is now a Reef Field Station. What does that mean you may ask? The Reef Environmental Education Foundation(Reef) is a grass-roots, non-profit organization of recreational divers who regularly conduct fish biodiversity and abundance surveys during their dives.
In plain language, Reef adds meaning to your diving. Have you ever wondered what you were actually looking at when diving? What type of fish were you seeing? What were they doing down there? Get involved with Reef and your questions will be answered. Reef teaches you the art of fish surveying. You will learn how to identify and survey the fish you are seeing and for a good cause. It’s exciting and brings a whole new focus to your diving.
This data you collect becomes part of the Reef Fish Survey Project. You collect the data using a fun and easy standardized method and your information is then housed in a publicly-accessible database on Reef’s website. Your survey data will be used by a variety of resource agencies and researchers. Now that Adventure Scuba is a field station, you will soon be able to learn the basics in a fish surveying class and be ready to survey on your next trip. — Bob Potterton, Co-Owner
